Happy Fourth of July
August 30th, 2019
August means end of summer celebrations, and we were sure to embrace the upcoming season change in style!
Last week Josie taught us to make her favorite recipe of Southern banana pudding. It was so delicious that it even had some of us licking the bowls!
It started out as a rainy day, but the sun came out, and we enjoyed a great “end of the summer” family BBQ last week!
This week we enjoyed music by Bobby and Christine. They really know how to get us singing along and clapping in our seats!
Two Saint Bernards visited while we set up for our August birthday party and were such a fun surprise! Nigel Egg stopped by to play some music and help us celebrate our August guests of honor: Esther, Louise, Pauline, Dorothy, and Mary.
The birds around the Willows were well cared for this month! We created homemade bird feeders out of toilet paper tubes, peanut butter, and bird seed.

We had lots of visitors last month here at the Willows! Check out some photos from our July BBQ and volunteer visits.
We had another amazing resident and family BBQ lunch this July! ???
We are always thankful for our community volunteers! This month included a visit from Substance Church, middle school students from Lord of Life Church, and weekly visits from our therapy dog, Solomon.

To say we had fun at karaoke last week would be an understatement. One of our resident’s daughters has a Karaoke business (Karaoke Paradise), and she brought karaoke to the Willows! We had a blast singing and dancing to many favorite songs. We originally planned the event for an hour, but everyone was having such a great time we kept going for a few hours! There’s a lot of talent here in the Willows community!
With the help from volunteers Katelyn and Shawna, we made patriotic parfaits with fresh strawberries and blueberries. They were delicious!

Now that we’re in the dog days of summer, we’ve been enjoying yummy summer treats at the Willows of Arbor Lakes!
One of our regular volunteers and her children picked fresh strawberries at her brother’s strawberry farm in Wisconsin. They brought the strawberries in for the residents, and everyone enjoyed a summer treat of strawberry shortcake. It was a hit!
We made a craft of our favorite summer treat: ice cream!
Since the days are getting warmer, we decided to have some fun making fresh squeezed lemonade!

It’s been an amazing start to summer here at the Willows!
Residents have painted flower pots with planted marigold seeds in them, planted flowers in the planters on our patio, and just relaxed while enjoying the sunshine!
On Thursday, May 23, the fourth graders from Cedar Island Elementary School came to sing for us at the Willows of Arbor Lakes. We were incredibly touched by their talent, organization, and kindness. Their singing brought smiles to all our faces, and we loved singing along to the familiar songs!
We are thankful for the warmer weather and the chance to get outdoors!
Monroe Wright’s performance on Friday was a hit!

The past few weeks have been full of dogs, music, and more!
Solomon recently celebrated a birthday and had fun catching his new frisbee. Solomon visits every Wednesday and brightens many residents’ days.
Paul and John provided great entertainment for our residents. It was fun to hear the duo play so many of the residents’ favorite songs on the trombone and keyboard.
Ladybug always brings out lots of smiles with her monthly visits!
We enjoyed one last summertime barbecue today. Thank you to all the families who joined us!
Husband and wife, Allan and Yana Reko, of KAYR Tones performed for our residents. They enjoyed the duo’s variety of songs and were given many opportunities to sing along into the microphone. The show was enjoyed by all!
For some of our residents, painting is a favorite pastime. We enjoy the time together.
Marian had a great time holding this Brussels Griffon – both she and Chia quickly found friendship with each other.Read More
